Just finished C2E2 this weekend, my first con in about a year and WOW. I can’t believe how much I missed the con experience and it was definitely one to remember.

My friend and I attended on Saturday, her as General Antiope from Wonder Woman and myself as Starfire from the Injustice 2 video game. The day starts early as we both wake up at 5 am to get ready. We geared up in full costume and began our three hour drive to Chicago.
We arrive just after the show floor has opened and it is already jam packed full of people. Turns out this is the first year they have sold out of their Saturday tickets and we could tell a difference in the amount of people compared to last year. Right away we are stopped for photos as soon as we get through the entrance to the show floor. This honestly is my favorite part because I get to show off my costume and really try to become the character I am portraying. We even ended up getting some free photos from the press that were there so I can’t wait until they put those up. I am actually surprised that we even took a picture of ourselves! We end up getting so immersed in the con that most of the time we forget. At least we had plenty of people do that for us haha!
My friends and I usually go to cons for the cosplay experience and to meet people. This year though C2E2 had a crap ton of amazing artists. I almost NEVER purchase artwork and this time around I did because I completely fangirled over a Korrasami print.
My friend got a bunch of artwork for her family members, a Funko Pop of herself ( which I am totally jealous of because nobody has a normal Starfire) and got an autograph from Colin Donnell, an actor who appeared on Arrow.
Rewind to ten minutes into the con my friend and I are walking up some stairs and I swing my arm just a little to wide and I wack my starbolt and it breaks! It flies down the steps and I run to pick it up and I just kind of beat myself up in my head because this is already the second time I have had to repair this thing haha. Good thing I made two. I have an out of commission starbolt until we took pictures with the press and the one guy happened to have a roll of tape on him and we had a temporary fix until it broke again. However, I expect some things to go wrong because nothing challenges your costume than wearing it to a con. Throughout the day Antiope’s shoe covers tear so we rip off the broken pieces. Then not long after a tear shows up on one of her bracers. Even after all the wear and tear on our costumes we didn’t let it ruin our con, instead we keep it in mind for the next one as well as deciding better ways to design and make future costumes. It’s a lose/win situation.
We see so many cool cosplayers and costumes at the convention and it gave me so much inspiration for the future. Some of these people work so hard to create everything and its so freaking awesome to see. If you haven’t been to a con I highly recommend going just to watch for the cosplayers.
All day I was hoping to see one of my favorite cosplayers but this convention had about 17k people rotating through it all day and I didn’t keep my hopes up too much but I just had a feeling if I kept trying and sending ESP I would meet her. So we go back into the convention after grabbing some food, as we were starving at this point walking around for about 6 hours already, to meet a gentleman who is the creator or HDC Fabrications and chat for a bit. He was a swell guy and had a panel about adding electronics and lights to cosplays called Let’s Get Lit. We all made a connection and gave our contact information and made new friends!
So. We say goodbye to the gent from HDC Fabrications and we do a quick sweep near the front entrance open floor and I saw the gal I wanted to see. I got so excited I almost cried? I know that sounds stupid but she seemed like a really cool person and creates fun and wacky content that I enjoy and knowing she was attending I just wanted the opportunity to say hi. We introduced ourselves, she is hrosie on instagram, and chatted for a bit. We ended it with a photo and that was definitely the cherry on top for this con.
