The second outfit of Starfire’s from the Injustice II video game was made to be worn in a warmer climate and was a fusion of a couple in-game designs that I took liberty of adding my own creativity to.
Materials used: textured spandex, lame, suede, vinyl, pu leather, eva foam, sew on gems
Items purchased: wig, shoes for inserting into covers, gems
Features a crop top and high waist bottoms. Sleeves have a cutout shoulder with vinyl insert. Open chest with faux collar donned with gems. Elbow length fingerless gloves have eva foam armor covered with lame fabric and faux leather that attach via velcro. Shoe covers are rather simple, like the gloves, and have the addition of eva foam armor.

Details and complexity are what catch my eye when it comes to making a decision on whether or not to recreate a costume. Video games are on another platform as most of the time some parts of the costume are never visible. Construction becomes difficult to breakdown as well as determining how the remaining parts of the outfit are designed. Thus, Starfire comes into play. She has an expansive wardrobe within the game and her Blackfire gear set was the first of hers I was to make.
Materials used: spandex, lame, pu leather, suede, vinyl, resin, fabric paint, snap closures, acrylic plexiglass
Items purchased: Base boots for covers, acrylic plexiglass rounds, wig
This dual layered spandex bodysuit features heavily detailed sleeves and bodice of lame, faux leather, and vinyl. A wrap around bodice of lame fabric extends along the legs with elastic straps to prevent shifting. A hexagonal pattern is painted on the untextured areas of fabric. A single mounted resin gem resides over the abdomen. Features a removable collar with similar designs to the bodysuit, resin gems, and velcro in the rear for attachment and snaps to connect to suit. Boot covers were made for the shoes and feature a flared top, suede used for structure and to provide soles. Starbolts, the green plexiglass, were hand etched with a dremel tool and handles of plexiglass were cut and heated to snap into the discs, allowing them to be held at many angles.

So I am a little late making a post about Heroes and Villains Chicago. For life is busy and full of surprises.
A couple weekends ago my friend, her sister and I traveled to Rosemont, IL and attended this convention. It is MUCH smaller than C2E2 and it was also a combined event with Walker Stalker Con, for the Walking Dead fans, so there were plenty of zombies. We were able to see every vendor within the first day, some a couple times over. But the best part of H&V is because it’s a smaller convention, lines to meet celebrities and artists were much shorter, allowing time to meet more people. Pricing was very reasonable as well.
We were beyond exhausted to attend the first day so we wore out casual cosplays for Saturday and wore our best ones for Sunday. I dressed as Sesshomaru and my friend Riley was Kara Danvers.

Our photographer friends from C2E2 were also at the convention and we snagged a few photos with them as well as doing our own photoshoots outside of the convention center.
There was a center live stage at the convention, aside from the panel stage, where they had guests performing, and where selected celebrities would have a mini panel with the fans. We listened to the fabulous Harp Twins and stuck around for Michael Rooker’s appearance. He was very much a ladies man and had smart-ass responses to questions and it was honestly hilarious. But of course he did have genuine responses for the right questions.

After we finished attending Rooker’s panel, we were famished and headed to Gibsons. This restaurant is a tourist hotspot for sure and we go every year we are in Rosemont. They are a little on the expensive side but it’s a treat we allow ourselves to indulge in once a year and I highly recommend making it part of your trip to eat there.
We finished eating, got ice cream at the mall a short walk away from our hotel, and headed to bed, ready for day two.
Sunday we already planned to not stay very long as I had said previously, we saw everything within the first day.
I dressed as my Injustice 2 Starfire and Riley donned Antiope once again. We packed and checked out of the hotel and made it to the convention to attend the Arrow panel. Afterwards I decided to buy a katana??? Gotta love those impulse con buys. Of course we were hungry again so after walking around for a little bit longer we snagged up some lunch and headed to our spot for another photoshoot, leaving soon after to return home.
I still have tons and tons of photos to go through and have fun editing but here are some I wanted to share anyways!

Character: Starfire from Injustice 2 (video game)
Costume: Blackfire gear set

Just finished C2E2 this weekend, my first con in about a year and WOW. I can’t believe how much I missed the con experience and it was definitely one to remember.

My friend and I attended on Saturday, her as General Antiope from Wonder Woman and myself as Starfire from the Injustice 2 video game. The day starts early as we both wake up at 5 am to get ready. We geared up in full costume and began our three hour drive to Chicago.
We arrive just after the show floor has opened and it is already jam packed full of people. Turns out this is the first year they have sold out of their Saturday tickets and we could tell a difference in the amount of people compared to last year. Right away we are stopped for photos as soon as we get through the entrance to the show floor. This honestly is my favorite part because I get to show off my costume and really try to become the character I am portraying. We even ended up getting some free photos from the press that were there so I can’t wait until they put those up. I am actually surprised that we even took a picture of ourselves! We end up getting so immersed in the con that most of the time we forget. At least we had plenty of people do that for us haha!

My friends and I usually go to cons for the cosplay experience and to meet people. This year though C2E2 had a crap ton of amazing artists. I almost NEVER purchase artwork and this time around I did because I completely fangirled over a Korrasami print.
My friend got a bunch of artwork for her family members, a Funko Pop of herself ( which I am totally jealous of because nobody has a normal Starfire) and got an autograph from Colin Donnell, an actor who appeared on Arrow.
Rewind to ten minutes into the con my friend and I are walking up some stairs and I swing my arm just a little to wide and I wack my starbolt and it breaks! It flies down the steps and I run to pick it up and I just kind of beat myself up in my head because this is already the second time I have had to repair this thing haha. Good thing I made two. I have an out of commission starbolt until we took pictures with the press and the one guy happened to have a roll of tape on him and we had a temporary fix until it broke again. However, I expect some things to go wrong because nothing challenges your costume than wearing it to a con. Throughout the day Antiope’s shoe covers tear so we rip off the broken pieces. Then not long after a tear shows up on one of her bracers. Even after all the wear and tear on our costumes we didn’t let it ruin our con, instead we keep it in mind for the next one as well as deciding better ways to design and make future costumes. It’s a lose/win situation.
We see so many cool cosplayers and costumes at the convention and it gave me so much inspiration for the future. Some of these people work so hard to create everything and its so freaking awesome to see. If you haven’t been to a con I highly recommend going just to watch for the cosplayers.
All day I was hoping to see one of my favorite cosplayers but this convention had about 17k people rotating through it all day and I didn’t keep my hopes up too much but I just had a feeling if I kept trying and sending ESP I would meet her. So we go back into the convention after grabbing some food, as we were starving at this point walking around for about 6 hours already, to meet a gentleman who is the creator or HDC Fabrications and chat for a bit. He was a swell guy and had a panel about adding electronics and lights to cosplays called Let’s Get Lit. We all made a connection and gave our contact information and made new friends!
So. We say goodbye to the gent from HDC Fabrications and we do a quick sweep near the front entrance open floor and I saw the gal I wanted to see. I got so excited I almost cried? I know that sounds stupid but she seemed like a really cool person and creates fun and wacky content that I enjoy and knowing she was attending I just wanted the opportunity to say hi. We introduced ourselves, she is hrosie on instagram, and chatted for a bit. We ended it with a photo and that was definitely the cherry on top for this con.
